Students rally for Montreal teacher who showed class infamous body-parts video

MONTREAL – Students at a Montreal high school are mostly rallying in support of a teacher suspended for showing a Grade 10 class what is believed to be the video of the infamous body-parts killing.

A protest was held outside the west-end Cavelier-De LaSalle High School around lunchtime today while much of the student body has signed a petition calling for the return of the teacher.

On June 4, apparently at the urging of students, a teacher agreed to show his history-and-civics class a video allegedly depicting the killing of Concordia University student Jun Lin. The video is so disturbing that police say even seasoned investigators have been rattled by it.

The teacher was suspended with pay and has not returned to the school.

One student tells The Canadian Press that the popular teacher made a mistake and should be allowed to return to his job — a view apparently held by many others at the school. But not everyone holds that view; one student says he should be fired for his lapse in judgment.

The teacher has explained his actions to the school board. The board now says it needs to verify other details.

The board says the decision to show the video was an unacceptable gesture and that consequences could include dismissal. Police have also said they’re investigating.
