Man who allegedly drove into several Kamloops businesses facing 13 charges

KAMLOOPS – A 35-year-old man is facing more than a dozen charges in connection to the damage down to several building in Kamloops earlier this month.

Court documents show the man is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer and 11 counts of mischief to property over $5,000.

He was taken into custody last week after a number of buildings in Sahali and downtown Kamloops had been damaged by a vehicle running into them.

Online court documents show this is the man's only current file in Kamloops Provincial Court, although it's not known if he has a criminal record. Police did say at the time the suspect was known to police.

Several 911 calls came in during the evening of May 21, all of them reporting a vehicle smashing into businesses in Sahali Mall, Aberdeen Mall, Winners and several other places including banks downtown.

The suspect vehicle was eventually stopped at the Lansdowne Village shopping centre, where the suspect was taken into custody.

It's not known what led to the alleged incidents, but he is scheduled to appear in court this afternoon, May 31, for a bail hearing.
