KAMLOOPS – The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has issued evacuation alerts because the Elephant Hill Wildfire continues to threaten people and property.
An evacuation alert has been issued for areas near the Elephant Hill Wildfire, according to a Thompson-Nicola Regional District release issued today, Sept 17.
The following properties have been issued evacuation alerts:
"Crews are making good progress on the Elephant Hill Wildfire," says B.C. Wildfire Service Information Officer Erin Catherall.
As of afternoon, there are no evacuation orders in place, however, there are alters in place for this fire Catherall says.
B.C. Wildfire Service wants the public to know that they continue to have an area restriction in effect which restricts access to crown land. They don't want the public to go out into the black, which are burnt areas. Catherall says it is "because there is a risk of danger trees." The wildfire has affected the root systems and other parts of the trees so they can easily fall with strong winds.
When an evacuation alert is in effect, The Thompson-Nicola Regional District states people should do the following:
