KAMLOOPS – After reports of an assault, stolen vehicle and a man naked in a Kamloops park, a 41-year-old man could face charges.

Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Brandon Buliziuk says in a news release that officers responded to a complaint in Sahali regarding an alleged assault and theft of a vehicle around 2 this morning, May 3.

The report said a man assaulted his father and fled in a stolen vehicle.

Around 7 a.m., officers responded to another public complaint saying a vehicle, which matched the stolen vehicle description, was parked in an "obscure manner" in the Peterson Creek Park area.

"A male was later observed to be near the creek and was described as being naked," Buliziuk says in the release.

Buliziuk says multiple officers responded to the area and established a perimeter, including members of general duty, police dog services and other units.

Officers closed in on the man and after a brief verbal exchange he was brought into custody without incident. Kamloops Fire Rescue and B.C. Ambulance also responded to the scene to help extract the man from the area and to treat him for symptoms of what's believed to be hypothermia, Buliziuk says.

The man was taken to hospital for an assessment and RCMP say the assault and stolen vehicle investigation is ongoing, but it's believed charges will be recommended to Crown counsel.

"The call from a member of the public in conjunction with the immediate and effective response of emergency responders, clearly contributed to this situation coming to an end in the safe manner it did," Buliziuk said.
