Snowfall may cause garbage collection delays

KELOWNA – As plows rush to move heavy snow in the region, garbage and recycling collection may be delayed.

According to a release from the Regional Waste Reduction Office, the winter creations may not be safe for garbage trucks. If collection is missed on the designated pick up day, residents should leave garbage or recycling bins out on the curb, until they are picked up.

In order to ensure pick up of containers, the Waste Reduction Office suggests putting them as close to the road as possible, without obstructing traffic. With snow banks increasing in size, this may be difficult.

Additionally, residents should avoid putting their carts out the night before, because they could block snow plows, however they do need to placed out before 7 a.m.

Although tempting, containers should not be placed on top of snow banks.
