UPDATE: Missing Alberta man identified after boat found adrift on Okanagan Lake

KELOWNA – The search continues for a missing Alberta man after his abandoned boat was found floating in the middle of Okanagan Lake Tuesday night.

Brian Daryl Lakevold’s, 64, boat was found near Kalamoir Regional Park in Lakeview Heights in West Kelowna around 9:17 p.m. after a local couple reported they had hit an unoccupied Malibu boat.

According to RCMP Const. Kris Clark, the boat was adrift with the lights were off and the St. Albert man’s personal effects were found onboard.

Lakevold’s family has been contacted and they have confirmed he is missing.

Clark says both air and water craft are being used in the search.

As well, investigators are appealing to the public for their help to establish a timeline of the missing man’s whereabouts on Tuesday afternoon so they can focus the search.

“Specifically, police are looking to speak with anyone who may have seen him or his maroon and white Malibu LXI after 2:30 p.m. on August 26, 2014, up until his boat was found unoccupied that evening,” Const. Clark said in a media release.
