Knox and Dilworth reopen thanks to falling fire hazard
KELOWNA – You can have a campfire in a provincial park this weekend — and now you can also drive part the way up Knox Mountain Drive or drive right into Dilworth Mountain Park.
The areas were closed earlier this month due to the high fire hazard.
“The rain and cooler weather may not appeal to everyone, but we can all agree that our parks and natural areas needed it,” Urban Forest Health Technician Andrew Hunsberger said in a media release. “Even though the risk of fire has decreased, we do still ask that park visitors continue to use caution while in the parks.”
The upper portion of Knox Mountain Drive is going to stay closed to vehicles for the time being. The fire risk will be re-evaluated next week.
While the campfire ban has been lifted, the City of Kelowna is reminding the public smoking isn’t allowed in natural areas.
