TORONTO – The Toronto Marlies have signed suspended NCAA goaltender Dryden McKay to a two-year American Hockey League contract.

McKay was handed a six-month ban on April 18 for an anti-doping violation after leading Minnesota State University to the Frozen Four national championship game.

The suspension was announced by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.

A supplement he took to help protect him from COVID-19 was the source of the positive test. McKay said he accepted the suspension so that he could be ready for professional hockey in the fall.

The Marlies, the AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, say McKay will be eligible to voluntarily enter the organization’s facilities on Aug. 25 and play for the team on Oct. 11.

McKay finished the season at Minnesota State with a 38-5 mark. He was named the Hobey Baker Award winner as the top player in NCAA men’s hockey.
