Getting personal with cancer—and why it matters

KELOWNA – UBC Faculty of Medicine presents Dr. Marco Marra, a cancer research specialist, at a unique presentation in Kelowna next week.

The UBC professor will talk about genome analysis—the process of examining the DNA of each patient to provide highly individualized cancer therapy.

In his talk, Cancer – It’s personal, participants learn about genomics research, the key to personalized medicine, and the opportunities and challenges in relating genomic studies to treatment outcomes.

Marra, who has been named one of the world’s most influential scientific minds, is the recipient of the Dr. Chew Wei Memorial Prize in Cancer Research—awarded annually by UBC’s Faculty of Medicine—to a Canadian who has made outstanding contributions to the treatment, improvement of care, or cure for cancer.
