DUNEDIN, Fla. – Toronto right-hander Aaron Sanchez pitched four strong innings as the Blue Jays fell 2-1 to the Tampa Bay Rays in spring training action Tuesday.
Sanchez surrendered just one hit while striking out three batters and walking one while keeping his earned-run average at zero.
It’s another good sign for Sanchez, who is looking to return to his 2016 form when he was an all-star and had the lowest ERA in the American League.
Sanchez has missed much of the last two seasons with blisters and other injuries.
Toronto (9-7) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on Kevin Pillar’s RBI single.
Tampa Bay (9-9) scored twice in the top of the seventh on a Joey Wendle RBI double and a Kevin Kiermaier sacrifice fly.
Reliever Ryan Tepera took the loss for Toronto.
The loss ended Toronto’s eight-game winning streak.
The Blue Jays next face the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday afternoon.
