Police seeking suspects in Montreal Macron melee that left partygoers injured

Montreal police are seeking the public’s help in tracking down numerous suspects who allegedly attacked party-goers in a restaurant as they celebrated the first year of French President Emmanuel Macron’s election.

According to police, Macron supporters had gathered at a Saint-Denis Street establishment in the Plateau Mont-Royal district April 12.

Authorities say up to 10 people wearing masks and scarves entered the restaurant and headed to the basement to disrupt the event, chanting “Happy Birthday Macron” in French.

The rabble-rousers then started throwing things, including drink glasses and anti-Macron leaflets, before leaving.

One person who tried to snap photos of the anti-Macron crew was struck with a flying chair and suffered a brain injury. Another suspect allegedly sprayed a customer with pepper spray.

Police say half of the people they are looking for spoke French with Quebec accents while the other half sounded like natives of France.
