Fuel delivery flight crashes in Guyana jungle, killing pilot

GEORGETOWN, Guyana – Authorities say a plane carrying fuel to mining camps in Guyana has crashed in the remote jungle, killing the pilot.

Aviation Director Egbert Field reports that the plane was heading for the western region of the South American nation when it nosedived into thick vegetation late Tuesday.

He says 39-year-old pilot Colin Martin was the only person aboard.

The aircraft belonged to domestic charter company Roraima Airways, which shuttles fuel to big mining companies.

Field said Wednesday that authorities were investigating and added that weather conditions were good at the time of the crash.
