Romania: 28 treated in the hospital after violent storm

BUCHAREST, Romania – Hospital staff in Romania say 28 people have received hospital treatment for bruises and broken bones following a violent storm that ripped down trees, damaged cars and electric lines.

Dr. Angel Trifan told The Associated Press Wednesday that 22 people were treated at the Galati County Hospital for head injuries, bruises and panic attacks after trees and branches fell during Tuesday’s storm in eastern Romania. He said a 57-year-old man with a fractured hip remained in intensive care.

Lidia Sandru, a doctor at the same hospital, told national news agency Agerpres that another six people were admitted Wednesday for treatment.

Dozens of workers were working to fix power outages in the area after electric company Electrica Galati said the storm knocked out power cables.
