Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Aerospace, rail equipment. Up four cents, or 2.09 per cent, to $1.95 on 18 million shares. The Quebec-based company says it’s still looking for federal financial assistance despite forecasting strong earnings growth in 2017 and enough cash to achieve its turnaround plan. Chief executive Alain Bellemare told investors Thursday that the request made a year ago for US$1 billion in funding would add financial flexibility to manage unexpected risks or to develop its next aircraft program.

Athabasca Oil Corp. (TSX:ATH). Oil and gas. Up 32 cents, or 22.54 per cent, to $1.74 on 13.6 million shares. The company has struck a deal to buy the northern Alberta oilsands assets of Norwegian oil giant Statoil ASA for up to $832 million.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Down 24 cents, or 8.05 per cent, to $2.74 on 11.1 million shares.

Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI). Miner. Down 22 cents, or 5.9 per cent, to $3.51 on 9.6 million shares.

Baytex Energy Corp. (TSX:BTE). Oil and gas. Up 15 cents, or 2.28 per cent, to $6.74 on 8.3 million shares.

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Financial Services. Up 64 cents, or 2.63 per cent, to $25.01 on 7.6 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (TSX:CNQ). Oil and gas. Down 59 cents, or 1.32 per cent, to $44.18 on 2.1 million shares. The company has set out a $3.9-billion capital budget for the year ahead, while emphasizing the potential to ramp up or retreat on spending depending on the market.
