Turkish court orders man who kicked nurse re-arrested

ISTANBUL – Turkey’s state-run news agency says a man charged with assaulting a woman on a bus because she was wearing shorts has been taken into custody for the third time following public outcry at two decisions to release him from jail.

Anadolu Agency reported Friday that a Turkish court called for the arrest of Abdullah Cakiroglu just days after he was freed during his trial.

He is facing up to 9 years, 4 months in prison for kicking Aysegul Terzi in the face on a public bus on Sept. 12. According to Turkish media reports, Cakiroglu confessed to attacking Terzi over her “inappropriate” clothing.

He was arrested shortly after the attack, but released. That decision sparked outrage leading to Cakiroglu being arrested again and held until his trial this week.
