Death of infant in car seat being investigated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – A North Carolina sheriff’s office is investigating the death of an infant who was found unresponsive in a car seat on a day when the temperature rose to above 90 degrees.

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Sgt. Sean Swain tells The Fayetteville Observer (http://bit.ly/2a5wZNS ) that emergency personnel were dispatched Monday afternoon after a mother said she saw her child unresponsive in a car seat as she was driving.

The infant was taken to a nearby hospital and declared dead.

Doctors at the hospital asked that deputies investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. An autopsy is scheduled.
