West Kelowna Warriors down Spruce Kings at home

WEST KELOWNA – Liam Blackburn had a pair of goals in a dominating 5-2 West Kelowna Warriors victory over the Prince George Spruce Kings on Saturday night, Oct. 17, at Royal Lepage Place.

Blackburn had the lone goal in the opening frame, as he deflected Paul Lovsin's point shot past Sam Tanguay.

The Warriors controlled the entire frame, out-shooting the Spruce Kings 15-2 in the first.

The control continued into the second, as the Warriors fired 18 shots on goal, but were unable to beat Tanguay until Blackburn's second of the night was scored short handed at 18:20. The Spruce Kings had five shots on goal.

West Kelowna struck twice quickly in the third period as Jake Harrison scored from the point before Jonathan Desbiens went five-hole on a backhand to make it 4-0.

Jake Lebrun broke the goose egg at 10:26 with a power-play goal as the Spruce Kings captain made it 4-1.

Kyle Marino was able to reinstate the four-goal lead by burying a rebound goal, before Nic Ponak finished off a three-way passing play to make it 5-2.

Final shots on goal were 50-19 for West Kelowna.

The Warriors will head to Penticton on Wednesday night, Oct. 21, to face the Vees before visiting the Vernon Vipers on Friday, Oct. 23, and hosting the Victoria Grizzlies on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 25.
