KAMLOOPS – A woman in Kamloops was all fired up to enjoy a special birthday celebration, but firefighters managed to douse her enthusiasm — and a growing blaze sparked by fireworks — just in time.
Kamloops Fire and Rescue captain Jeff Bell says flames were leaping from a cedar hedge surrounding a townhouse complex as crews arrived Thursday evening, Aug. 20.
He says they quickly put out the blaze, but were amazed to learn it was sparked by someone setting off fireworks.
Fireworks have been banned for weeks as most of the province endures a withering drought.
Bell says the woman, in her 40s, wanted to mark a special birthday and was mortified to learn of the danger she had caused, but she didn't get much sympathy.
She received a $250 fine.

Good for her Happy Birthday, fire ban means for everyand everybody. Tbe fine shoud of been higher since it ac tually lit a bush on fire
How could she have not known and I think she got off easy.
This mother is in her 40’s!! She should have known better. What she thinks she is invisible and can light fire works to celebrate a Birthday when there are fires happening all around B.C. $250.00 fine is peanuts nowadays. The fines need to “increase” where it really hurts them in the wallets. How about raising them to $750.00 and up!!! I truly DO NOT understand this selfish society we now live in. We need to bring back RESPECT as this World is getting worse and worse by the minute!!
$250.00 is nothing! It should have been so much more and she should have had to pay wages for all the firefighters that had to be called out as well as repair of all damages the fire caused!!!!
Don’t you need a PERMIT for fireworks? Fine should have been much higher as no permit plus she caused a fire.
