BUCHAREST, Romania – Prosecutors in Romania say they have smashed a drugs ring that was trafficking cannabis and ecstasy.
The organized crime prosecutors’ agency said 58 people suspected of trafficking high-risk drugs are in custody or have been questioned. Prosecutors plan to question 22 more.
Prosecutors aided by other law enforcement officials searched 68 homes Tuesday. The say there was “reasonable suspicion” that suspects, who all frequented a club in the western city of Timisoara, set up an organized crime ring in 2015 to traffic drugs.
Prosecutors say the ring extended its activity and in December, two suspects were caught allegedly trying to import 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) of amphetamines and 1,000 ecstasy pills from the Netherlands.
